"Camp Magic" Solo Exhibition —November - December 2024
Benefiting Camp Esperanza, Children with Cancer
The Eisemann Center, Richardson Texas
Camp Esperanza, hosted at Camp John Marc in Meridian, Texas, offers children battling cancer a week-long summer camp filled with Joy, Hope, Compassion, and a sense of normalcy, all under the care of medical staff and volunteers. The camp's mission is to create a safe, fun environment where these children can experience the best medicine of all—hope. My solo exhibition features paintings and assemblage pieces that evoke the joy, hope and compassion the kids experience at camp. Sights, sounds, and textures of the summer camp are represented in the pieces.

Messenger of the Devine 🔴SOLD
38 x 50, $2500, acrylic with steel doves. This artwork embodies the timeless symbolism of doves as messengers of peace and hope. Their graceful flight evokes a sense of freedom and the uplifting presence of light. The soft blue tones used throughout the piece represent health, healing, tranquility, and understanding. This painting was brought to life in collaboration with Lamy Iron Works in Santa Fe, blending artistic vision with craftsmanship.
On the darkest night, the stars shine brightest
40x30, $1500. “On the darkest night, the stars shine brightest” is a quote from Helen Keller, a powerful symbol of strength and resilience. Throughout her life, she demonstrated the ability to overcome incredible obstacles, becoming an enduring inspiration for perseverance in the face of adversity.
Joy to the world.jpg, 🔴SOLD
48x36 plus frame, $2500, collab piece with Carolyn Campbell. A truly beautiful afternoon painting with my BFF! Carolyn and I created this beauty, in honor of kids facing such huge challenges. It’s incredible how creativity, connection, and purpose can transform a simple activity into something profoundly heartfelt. Just like the kids at camp, Carolyn and I shared in the joy of the moment—laughter, exploration, and the comforting presence of best friends side by side.
Tree of Life
23x36, $2500. The Tree of Life is one of the most profound symbols, representing the deep interconnectedness of all living things. Its roots symbolize our connection to the earth, grounding us in the physical world. The trunk signifies our presence in the material realm, while the branches reach skyward, symbolizing our connection to the heavens and the divine. When we gaze at the Tree of Life, we’re reminded that we are all interconnected, part of something far greater than ourselves. The ironwork for this piece was beautifully crafted by Lamy Ironworks in Santa Fe.
Oreos! Oh Yeah! 🔴SOLD
10 x 8, $600. This treat has become the campers’ favorite sweet at Camp Esperanza, thanks to Carolyn and the staff, who collect flavors throughout the year. I remember a trip to Costa Rica with Carolyn where we even bought Oreos for the campers! Each year, the campers vote on their favorite flavor, and it’s these simple pleasures that create the most lasting memories. It’s a reminder that the smallest joys—like sharing a treat—can have the biggest impact. This piece was created by making a mold from actual Oreos then recreating the cookies with resin.
siLLy WabBiT, 🔴SOLD
38 x 50, $2900. Jackrabbits, with their incredible agility and speed, symbolize resilience and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with ease. I’ve seen them while hiking in Santa Fe, and they truly are something to behold—graceful yet swift, disappearing in a flash. It’s no wonder they capture the imagination! At Camp Esperanza, these magical creatures bring so much joy to the campers. When one hops into view, the kids light up with excitement, as if they’ve encountered something rare and wondrous.
Jump in and lose yourself 🔴SOLD
48 x 24, $1200. This impasto painting captures the essence of cool, refreshing water—a dip in the pool that symbolizes more than just relief from the heat. It reflects the campers’ joy as they experience moments of friendship, connection, and community while swimming together. Each stroke of paint represents the strength and unity shared by those who are navigating the same journey of battling cancer, finding comfort and support in one another.
Birds of a feather, we should stick together
20 x 24, $1500. Thank you, Billie Eilish, for these lyrics, which resonate deeply with this community of campers who face similar challenges. The cardinal’s vibrant red feathers symbolize the wings that carry us toward our goals and new horizons. In moments of doubt, when the future feels uncertain, we can take refuge in our faith that everything will work out as it should. The cardinal spirit animal reminds us of this truth, serving as a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and the belief that we are always guided toward what’s best.
Every challenge comes with rainbows and lights to conquer it..jpeg
$3000, $130 x 80 x 3, acrylic on canvas
A friend is what the heart needs all the time. 🔴SOLD
13 x 16, $800. Collab piece with the campers. Friends and community are incredibly powerful for our mental and physical well-being, and this story about the campers and their bracelet-making captures that so well. Meaningful friendships give us a sense of belonging and security, allowing us to express ourselves without judgment. These connections don’t just bring joy; they can also reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and even boost immunity! The campers made bracelets symbolizing the beauty of connection—they aren’t just stringing beads; they’re creating shared memories and tangible reminders of their bonds. And, they made one for Coca Cola, the therapy dog, is just so heartwarming! Finding a community, even in small groups like a camp, brings a lasting impact, especially in young minds. It’s in these communities where we can embrace playfulness, acceptance, and care—values that shape us long after the campfires are out and the bracelets are tucked away in drawers as cherished keepsakes.

$2500, 48 x 48, acrylic on canvas
The sun will set only to rise again 🔴SOLD
$1200
One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish
60 x 48, $2500. This painting is dedicated to all the kids who love fishing at Camp Esperanza. I’ve blended my loose brushstroke style with the traditional art of Gyotaku fish prints, capturing the joy and spirit of fishing in a unique way. I couldn’t resist adding a playful nod to Dr. Seuss’s famous children’s book, bringing a bit of whimsy to the piece. It’s a tribute to the fun and freedom that fishing brings, and to the wonderful memories made by the campers.
Glass Half Full 🔴SOLD
31x27, $1200. Life is all about perspective—whether the glass is half full or half empty. The kids at Camp Esperanza choose to see the positive side, even while facing something as daunting as cancer. Inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s iconic pop art gum ball machines, I’ve created my own vibrant, mixed-media piece that reflects this outlook. Like the colorful, joyful chaos of a gum ball machine, this artwork represents the resilience, optimism, and wild spirit of these campers as they navigate their challenges with strength and hope.
There's no better place to heal than on the back of a horse.
24x24, $1500. Trusting a 1,000-pound animal while riding on its back is a powerful lesson in partnership and trust. There’s a unique bond that forms between rider and horse, a shared understanding that goes beyond words. Personally, I’ve faced some awful, terrible times as well, but being on horseback has always helped put my problems into perspective. The strength, grace, and freedom of these majestic creatures remind me that even in the toughest moments, there’s beauty in finding balance and trusting the journey.
Listen for the story
36 x 24, $2500. Sometimes, we all need to slow down and take in the beauty of a sunset. At Camp Esperanza, the kids get the chance to do just that—enjoy the vivid colors, the calm, and the peace of being surrounded by friends who truly understand them. In those quiet moments, they can pause, breathe, and simply “listen for the story” that unfolds in the stillness of nature and the shared bond of friendship. It’s a time to reflect, connect, and find beauty in the present.
Through the eyes of a child with cancer 🔴SOLD
10 x 12, mixed media, $500. Tubes, infusions, needles—all the countless implements used to treat kids with cancer—are part of their everyday reality. This piece aims to reimagine these tools in a different light, adding a touch of brightness to what can be a daunting experience. I incorporated Skittles, gummy bears, and sprinkles to bring a little joy and sweetness to the treatments, transforming them into symbols of hope and resilience.
Featuring Artist Carolyn Campbell
Alongside my work, the exhibit features pieces by Carolyn Campbell, an accomplished artist, president of the Bridewell Foundation (the organization that funds Camp Esperanza) and Director of the camp’s Art Barn. Carolyn’s contributions beautifully reflect the same themes of hope, joy, and compassion, offering a shared vision of the healing power of art.
Mysteriously Magical 🔴SOLD
20x20, $1000. “Mysteriously Magical” is a special piece to me. Painting with Alcohol Ink is exciting! It is vibrant, and fluid and it participates in the creative process often surprising the artist. Creating this size flower was a personal challenge. Using compressed air, the petals came to life one by one using just black ink. Unleashing the colors hiding in black ink when it is manipulated with isopropyl alcohol and air is mesmerizing. The result is simply magical!
Fiesta 🔴SOLD
20x20, $1000. “Fiesta” is the garden’s party girl! She highlights the vibrancy of Alcohol Ink, and the chemical reactions unleashed using different techniques. The inks like to paint with you! They form ridges when the ink dries. This helps define the composition and adds dimension in ways other mediums don’t. Look closely at the details of this cone flower to see the ridge lines. Only three colors were used and the inks mixed and mingled to create the rest.
Spring Mist, 🔴SOLD
20x20, $1000. “Spring Mist” is a gentle lady created using black ink and three other colors. The combination created a flower that Mother Nature would be proud to call her own. Compressed air was used to create the petals with isopropyl alcohol. No two paintings are ever alike just as nature intended. When you gaze upon her countenance, can you feel the mist in the air and the fragrance of beautiful florals?
Monarch Majesty
20x20, $1000. “Monarch Majesty” is bold, bright and majestic. He is seeking nectar from the garden and is busy pollinating. This painting represents the versatility of Alcohol Ink. Several tools and techniques were used to create it including air, paint brushes, and splattering ink. Like the Monarch, the results were both gentle and bold. I hope he inspires you to
Celebration of Life Paintings
At camp, a Celebration of Life ceremony is held to remember the former campers who have passed away from cancer since the previous year. This heartfelt program celebrates the lives of these brave children, focusing on the fun they had, the friendships they made, and the fullness with which they lived their lives. On display are five paintings created with the campers themselves, paying tribute to those who are no longer with us but whose spirits continue to inspire us all.
I'm nearby, 🔴SOLD
24x24, $2500. “I’m Nearby” is a collaboration painting in memory of two campers who LOVED spending time in the Art Barn. Each camper participated by dripping alcohol ink in the background. Inspiration for “I’m Nearby” came from the belief that seeing a redbird is a sign that a deceased loved one is watching over you. It is a beautiful sentiment. While the kids were dripping the ink, a redbird appeared on the windowsill looking in on us. We felt it’s presence and those of our dear campers that we were remembering.
Heart Full of Hope
24x24, $1000. “Heart Full of Hope” is a collaboration painting with the campers in memory of two campers who LOVED spending time in the Art Barn. The campers had a blast throwing paint on the canvas Jackson Pollock style! The symbol of the heart represents how closely we hold each camper in our hearts and especially those we lost to cancer.
Hopeful Heart
24x24", $1000. “Hopeful Heart” is a collaboration painting with the campers in memory of two campers who LOVED spending time in the Art Barn. The campers had a blast throwing paint on the canvas Jackson Pollock style! The symbol of the heart represents how closely we hold each camper in our hearts and especially those we lost to cancer.
Hands of Hope
24x24, $1500. “Hands of Hope” bears the handprints of our campers. It is a deeply personal background representing children who are battling cancer and those we have lost. On top of the handprints are pendulum paintings. This is a cool process that is a BIG hit with the kids, so it was chosen to be the centerpiece of the painting.
Hope Springs Eternal
24x24, $2000. “Hope Springs Eternal” is a whimsical painting. The campers used round sponge brushes to add the brightly colored blossoms. Each dot is the personal touch of a camper. The Art Barn is a busy place where campers unleash their creativity. Their work is often reflective of their cancer journey or the things they hold dear in life. It is a humbling to be a part of it. This is a fun painting that I think the kids we lost would love!
